Xi'an University of Science and Technology

Xi'an University of Science and Technology has a long history and profound cultural heritage. The university's educational roots can be traced back to the Department of Mining and Metallurgy under the College of Engineering of Peiyang University, founded in 1895. In 1938, it was relocated and merged into the Department of Mining and Metallurgy of Northwest Institute of Technology. In 1957, it was integrated into Xi'an Jiaotong University. In 1958, it was separated from Xi'an Jiaotong University and established as Xi'an Institute of Mining, which was one of only two five-year undergraduate institutions directly subordinate to the former Ministry of Coal Industry. In 1998, the university adopted a "joint construction by the central and local governments, with local management as the mainstay" approach and was placed under the administration of Shaanxi Province. In 1999, it was renamed Xi'an Institute of Science and Technology, and in 2003, it adopted its current name, Xi'an University of Science and Technology.

The university is a participant in the National Midwestern Universities' Basic Capacity Building Project, a university jointly established by the Ministry of Emergency Management and the People's Government of Shaanxi Province, and a "Double First-Class" cultivation university in Shaanxi Province. It serves as a vital talent cultivation and scientific and technological innovation base in the fields of energy and safety in western China. In the fourth round of national discipline evaluations, the Discipline of Safety Science and Engineering was rated A−, and in the fifth round, it achieved new breakthroughs. Six disciplines—Engineering, Materials Science, Geosciences, Environment/Ecology, Chemistry, and Agricultural Sciences—are ranked among the top 1% globally in the ESI rankings. The university has successively been honored with titles such as "Shaanxi Provincial Green Campus," Shaanxi Provincial "Safe Campus," Shaanxi Provincial Education System "Civilized Campus," and Xi'an Municipal "Landscaped Unit."
